WATER WELLS
Commonly Asked Questions and Answers

Q: How much land area do I need to Drill a well?

A: The well is only 6-8 inches in diameter. The casing sits from two to five feet (dependent upon local flood plane statistics) above the surface. The pump is submersed in the well which leaves the water pressure tank, a cylinder the size of a LP gas bottle, which can be buried: garage/shed, or surface; mounted. Most drillers want it surface mounted for easy maintenance. Landscaping, decorative wells, or faux rocks are common covers. Limiting factors are accessibilty and a drill site level enough for the drilling rig. Imagine a tour bus has to get entry to the site and when you erect the tower it will stand 32 feet high and therefore the drilling rig has to be level. There are locations where one end of the rig is raised 9’ in the air to level, however it is desireable to stay within 8 degrees to alleviate the need for special shoring and resultant set-up fees.
