WATER WELLS
Commonly Asked Questions and Answers

Q: My drilling estimate calls for casing. How much do I need and why?

A: The well is lined with a steel or plastic “casing” to prevent soil from collapsing into the borehole; groundwater and contaminants from entering the well; and to create an unobstructed conduit for the water to be brought to the surface. Georgia law requires that the casing be placed 5 feet into bedrock which normally can be reached by drilling anywhere from 10-80 feet.
